The Lagos State Government has promised to improve the welfare of workers in the state, saying it has increased the budgetary provision for staff housing loans from N50m to N100m for the purpose.

The state Head of Service, Mrs. Folasade Adesoye, who said this at the ongoing ministerial briefing in Lagos, added that the Staff Housing Board had disbursed loans to about 280 public servants from various ministries, departments and agencies.

She said a total of N95m had been disbursed so far.

She said, “I am delighted to inform you that the budgetary provision for housing loan has increased from N5om to N100m, laying credence to government’s commitment to staff welfare.”

Adesoye pointed out that about 40 buses were in the fleet of the centralised staff buses.

“However, owing to the increasing number of staff and the opening up of new residential areas, there is a conspicuous deficit in the number of buses. But Governor Akinwunmi Ambode has promised to re-fleet the scheme with state-of-the art buses,’’ she added.

Adesoye added that the welfare of the staff bus drivers was being improved with regular medical check-ups and exposure to good healthcare facilities.
