The stand-out qualities of the Peoples Elephant defender has made a way for him with the senior national team after excelling with the u20s

When the Super Eagles’ camp opens on March 18 in Asaba, Delta State for the upcoming games against Seychelles and Egypt, one of the new faces that would be there is Enyimba defender, Valentine Ozornwafor.

Many are still wondering how the Flying Eagles star found a way to the national team quite ‘easily’ especially as it is often suggested that Coach Gernot Rohr has an apathy towards players plying their trade on the domestic scene.

Rohr himself has offered some explanation on why he is giving Ozornwafor a chance to stake a claim for a shirt with the Super Eagles.

The Franco-German tactician revealed that the 19-year old possesses some natural abilities which stand him out.

“I expect this player to bring his freshness, his physical strength (1m97) and technical quality left-handed.

“It also offers us an additional option since we have a lot of right-handed advocates. I saw him in Niger at the CAN and I like his aerial game,” Rohr told Cafonline as he defended the choice of players in his 23-man list.

It is worthy to note that Ozornwafor is the only locally-based outfield player in this latest roster for the Super Eagles with the other NPFL invitee being Katsina United shot-stopper, Ikechukwu Ezenwa.

The Enyimba defender has expressed delight for his maiden call up to the Super Eagles

Having excelled with the Flying Eagles and was named in CAF’s best XI at the end of the 2019 U-20 Africa Cup of Nations,  Ozornwafor is hoping to show himself with the Super Eagles and he has declared that he would not just be making the numbers in Asaba.

The Super Eagles are getting set for a dead rubber Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against the Pirates of Seychelles and a friendly against Egypt’s Pharaohs, both taking place in Asaba, Delta State.
