By Olasunkanmi Akoni ELECTION observers, the media, agents of political parties, stakeholders have besieged the Lagos State Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, collation centre, Yaba, for announcement of results of Saturday’s Presidential and National Assembly elections in the state.
As early as 10 am, yesterday, the collation centre, prepared for the collection and announcement of results from collation officers, COs from Local Government started getting busy with movement of people anxious for the results.. As at 6 pm the commission was still awaiting the official results from it’s collation officers from most of the local government areas. Though, at press time, some collation officers were seen with the election materials, also awaiting for the commencement of the exercise. Resident Electoral Commissioner, Mr. Sam Olumekun, who came out to plead with obviously anxious and tired audience, said announcement will commence as soon more results come in. When reached to find out what was responsible for the delay, Public Relations officer of the commission, Mr. Femi Akinbiyi, said the commission was ready and would soon commence the process as soon as sizeable number of results were ready. He confirmed that as at 7 pm, only three collation officers out of the 20 expected were ready for presentation. Some of the personalties who arrived early, included Secretary to the Lagos State Government, Mr Tunji Bello, All Progressives Congress, APC Deputy Governorship candidate, Mr Femi Hamzat, former Minister of Defence, Demola Seriki, among others.
