By Emmanuel Aziken, Political Editor INEC chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu yesterday announced details of the collection of the Permanent Voter Cards, PVCs with the revelation that Lagos and Kano States had the highest number of PVCs. It was no surprise given the population of the two states which are respectively commercial centres of Southern and Northern Nigeria.

However, the revelation that Katsina and Adamawa States led the other 36 states in the rate of collection is revealing. Katsina is the home state of President Muhammadu Buhari, the candidate of the APC while Adamawa is the home state of Atiku Abubakar, the candidate of the PDP. If the figures of PVC collection is anything to go by and given the enthusiastic crowd that welcomed the two in their homecoming, it would indicate the readiness of the two states to fully back their fellow citizens in the election tomorrow. Atiku had in the past been ensnared by issues in his past presidential aspirations. The only time he competed in a nationwide presidential election was in 2007 and came into the contest three days to the election after the Supreme Court overturned the administrative injuction put against him. For him and his supporters, if the high rate of PVC collection is suggestive of fellow Adamawa citizens coming out to support him, then it would be gladdening for his supporters.
