The Northern Governors Forum on Thursday said they were never opposed to ranching as a way of resolving the lingering clashes between farmers and herdsmen in the country

Apart from the being a way out of the crisis, the governors noted that with ranching, there would be significant improvement in the production of  dairy products in the North and other parts of the country.

The Chairman of the NGF and Governor of Borno State, Kashim Shettima, during the  question and answer session shortly after reading the communiqué of the meeting held at the Sir Kashim Ibrahim Government House, Kaduna,  noted that ranching would enhance the productivity of  animals in the country.

Listing the benefits of ranching, Shettima said while “a cow in other countries produces as much as 40 litres of milk per day, our own breed of cow produces only one litre.”

This, he said, was not even enough to sustain the ever growing population in the North and other parts of the country.

In a five-page communique, the governors resolved to support the President Muhammadu Buhari-led government in  tackling the lingering communal clashes occasioned by the activities of the herdsmen in the country.
