The Ogun Police Command has arrested a 40-year-old man, Abiodun Idowu who killed his co-worker, 38-year-old Abimbola Hamzat, while attempting to rape her.
The police report indicated that the suspect who was a driver in the same sachet water producing company where the deceased was an accountant, was arrested on Tuesday, 29th May 2018
The incident was reported at the Onipanu, Ota, Divisional headquarters of the command by one Moses Owolabi.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi, said the suspect was said to have stocked the deceased on several occasions to have an amorous relationship with her but she bluntly refused his advances.
He further said that on that fateful day, the deceased was alone in the factory when the suspect came in and attempted to forcefully have carnal knowledge of her.
Oyeyemi said while the victim was struggling with him, he strangled her to death.
On the strength of the report, he said the Divisional Police Officer, Onipanu, Ota Division, Sangobiyi Johnson, led detectives to the scene where they met the suspect unconscious.
Oyeyemi said the investigation revealed that the suspect having realised that he had committed a serious crime made efforts to kill himself by drinking hypo and izal.
He said, however, the DPO and his men quickly rushed him to a hospital for medical attention where he was treated and discharged before being detained.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Iliyasu, has ordered that the suspect should be transferred to the homicide section of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, Abeokuta, for further investigation and prosecution.
