The Ogun State Police Command says it has arrested a suspected fake lawyer, Omoniyi Vacoster, for appearing as counsel for unsuspecting members of the public.
The police said the suspect was arrested on February 1 following a complaint by one Omomehin Oluwatoyin of the Nigerian Bar Association, Ogun State chapter.
Oluwatoyin reportedly told the police that the suspect had been going to various courts in the state to defend cases, adding that the association's investigation indicated that he had not been called to the bar.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyeyemi, said the Divisional Police Officer, Ibara Division, detailed the Divisional Crime Officer, Dada Olusegun, to arrest and interrogate the suspect.
He said the suspect confessed that though he was a law graduate, he had not been called to the bar.
Oyeyemi said, "Having failed to go through the law school, he is not qualified to practise as a lawyer. The state Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Iliyasu, has ordered that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, Abeokuta."
